Come in and have a look around!

AUTUMN IS HERE and with it comes opportunities to photograph wildlife in its prime.

Salmon have completed their runs, bears are gorging on the bountiful protein, and moose

are quite busy, procreating and fighting over which bull will get to mate with the local harem.

The Fall Migration is taking place as well, with thousands of waterfowl, songbirds and raptors

all flying South to their Winter homes in the lower 48, and South America.

All of this provides chances to see the wildlife, and photograph it in its environment,

and I love being outdoors this time of year to take advantage of that. Sometimes it is a

Big Bull Moose, other times just a Beautiful ruffed Grouse, but there is almost always something

to see, and enjoy taking pictures of. Just yesterday there was a Ruffed Grouse in my driveway at

First Light! Its a wild, wonderful world in Alaska, and I invite you to join me here…

Artist Bio

I was born in Northern California in 1962, with a love for the outdoors and all things wild.  From an early age I was fascinated by bald eagles which I saw on television, and longed to see alive.  After receiving a book titled The Trumpet of the Swan, my interest grew to include swans; but during this time, only a few hundred Trumpeter Swans remained in the wild, and it seemed my dreams of seeing one of those could never come true.  However, a massive holdout of Trumpeter Swans was discovered in the Copper River Basin in Alaska, and a focused repopulation effort took place in the lower 48, leading to the rebound of Trumpeter Swans.  Through a series of events they recovered from the edge of extinction in my lifetime, and I grew keenly aware of our effects on the wildlife around us. To this day, wildlife fascinates me, and I love nothing more than spending time in the wilderness.

When I was just 10, my family moved to Alaska. We settled some 30 miles outside of Fairbanks, into the small community of Two Rivers, where I attended elementary school in a three-room schoolhouse.  5th and 6th grades were together, with a total of 18 students; I was the newcomer.   Socially I felt incredibly foreign, but outdoors, I found a world that appealed to all of my senses. Wilderness produced a deep feeling of peace for me; even then, I was smitten by romantic ideas of Nature.  In over 5 decades of living here, the beauty of Alaska has still never become commonplace or boring. Capturing what I see through Photography, and sharing my path through Storytelling, I try to grasp the ever-fleeting beauty that surrounds me and record it before it fades away.  This is my journey; I invite you to join me.
